Rum Drink!

Today is all about...

Bumboo!!!!

The choice of Pirates!

Arrrrrh, Matey.

Bumboo, or Bombo, is a beverage made from Rum, Water, Sugar, and Nutmeg and was the drink of choice throughout the Caribbean during the piracy years, arrrrrh. Bumboo was much preferred over Royal Navy Grog, a concoction of water, rum, and citrus juice that was used to treat scurvy amongst other things, because it tasted much better and the Pirates had access to lovely things like Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and, most importantly, Sugar.

So, on National Rum Day have some Bumboo!

A Bumboo Cocktail

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 oz. (60 ml.) Navy Rum (or Amber Rum)
  • 1 oz. (30 ml.) Chilled Water
  • Two (2) Sugar Cubes (Brown or Cane Sugar)
  • Sprinkle Cinnamon
  • Sprinkle Nutmeg

TECHNIQUE
Combine all ingredients in a chilled cocktail shaker and stir.

Pour into a chilled cocktail glass.

NOTE : Traditionally, Bumboo is served simply chilled and not on-the-rocks. Ice may be added to make the beverage more contemporary, but the local Pirates may take offense.
